Not all Poodle coats are uniform; they exhibit a range of textures, from fluffy to slightly wavy, coarse to fine. Hair length also varies, with some owners preferring shorter cuts to prevent matting and reduce brushing needs, while others opt for a longer coat. To groom your Poodle effectively, start at the tail's base and work your way down to the feet. Employ a slicker brush, taking care to work in small sections following the hair's growth direction, ensuring skin contact without causing discomfort. Isolate a 1-2 inch wide line of hair using fingers or a grooming clip, pulling it away from the body to reveal the skin. Employ the slicker brush to thoroughly brush this isolated line from base to tip, known as line brushing. After the slicker brush, switch to a fine-toothed comb and comb through the same isolated line to identify and eliminate any remaining tangles or mats. Begin at the tip and progress towards the base, ensuring smooth, resistance-free combing. Any snags indicate matting, requiring careful untangling.
